News organizations must develop a “culture of innovation” if they are to survive, Google News Product Head Robert Gingras said on Friday at Harvard’s Nieman Foundation.
Gingras, a media technologist and founder of Salon.com, told journalists that today, with a computer in nearly every home, “there’s more publishing going on now than ever before. And there’s more ‘good stuff available today than 20 years ago. It may be hard to find…but it’s there.”
That means that as powerful Internet technologies “flip the [news] ecosystem on its head, news executives must ” rethink every aspect of what we’re doing.”
I posted a blog about Gingras talk at New Cambridge Observer; here’s a link to a video of the complete talk.
