HarrisCom Advisor Mike Miller Joins National Governors Assn Team

HarrisCom Advisory Board Member Michael Miller, MD, has been named Physician-in-Residence at the National Governors Association Best Practices Health Division, the NGA announced last week.
The heath division provides information, research, policy analysis, technical assistance and resource development for governors and their staff across a range of policy issues.
In his new position, Miller will advance health improvement projects and activities across the country by working collaboratively with the NGA health team and Governors’ health staffs. He will focus on improving care and lowering total costs for “super utilizers” (people who need high levels of care; the integration of community health with traditional healthcare delivery; activities to improve birth outcomes; and the NGA’s Prescription Drug Abuse Project.
Until recently, Miller was president of HealthPolCom Consulting in Washington, D.C. He also has served as director of federal relations at Pfizer Inc. and as the health policy advisor to Congressman Sandy Levin. He received his medical degree at the Yale University School of Medicine and graduated magna cum laude from Williams College with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry.
In his new position, Miller will be working with Frederick Isasi, J.D, M.P.H., newly named director of the Best Practices Health Division. Isasi will oversee all work related to health care service delivery and reform, Medicaid cost containment, state employee and retiree health benefits, maternal and child health, prescription drug abuse prevention and health insurance exchange planning, the NGA also announced last week.
Isasi currently serves as the vice president of health policy at The Advisory Board Company, where he served as a strategic advisor to hospitals, health systems and provider companies throughout the nation and internationally. He also served as senior legislative counsel for health care for Senator Jeff Bingaman. Isasi holds a juris doctor from the Duke University School of Law, a master’s of public health with honors from the University of North Carolina and a bachelor’s of science in cellular biology and Spanish from the University of Wisconsin.
